The Abstract:
This article sheds light on the evaluation of religious reforms in Morocco after the 16thof May events in 2003 which has been unusual deed in Morocco, which is famous of being a stable and peaceful country. These events have put into question the state of different fields in Morocco, especially the religious field. New religious reforms have been also done after the Arab spring in 2011.
This paper casts light on the evaluation of religious reforms at different levels. The first level has to with educational system in which Morocco has made different changes at all stages of schooling and types of education. At the university level, the reform of Dar Al Hadith Al Hassania institution has taken place in 2004. I have had the honour to benefit from this reform since 2006. Changes have also conducted at the primary, middle and high school, especially at the level of the adjustment of Islamic education school subject syllabus. The second level concerns media which has witnessed the appearance of new channels, particularly Sadissa channel. The third level is about the legislative reforms that are related to questioning the situation of women in Morocco. An attempt has been made to evaluate the religious reforms at these three important levels.
The reforms at these levels have positiveimpacts at different categories of people, both laymen and educated people. They have contributed to reduce extremism among Moroccans, enhance coexistencewith the non-Muslims, and reconstruct a new religious discourse which is modernised and updated. Despite of their strengths, these reforms have some limitations. They have to be more multi-disciplinary and modernized. They have to be supported and reinforced by reforms at the economic and political levels.
Keywords: reforms, evaluation, strengths, limitations, religious discourse, modernization, extremism.
